The Hoops Inn & Country Hotel - A 13th-century Grade II listed inn with locally sourced dining and countryside views
Set in North Devon countryside near Bideford, The Hoops Inn & Country Hotel features 13 individually styled en-suite rooms, including four-poster beds under thatched roofs and modern Coach House accommodations. Room amenities include flat-screen TVs, tea/coffee facilities, and spa baths in select units. The on-site restaurant serves dishes like Honey's of Parkham pork sausages and pan-fried sea bream, prepared with locally sourced ingredients. Guests at The Hoops Inn can explore 3 hectares of landscaped grounds or visit nearby attractions like RHS Garden Rosemoor (6 km) and Clovelly Harbour. Dog-friendly rooms are available among Standard Doubles and Twins.
Pros
The 13th-century thatched architecture provides historic character
Restaurant emphasizes hyper-local Devon ingredients like Parkham pork and North Devon seafood
Multiple room configurations including family suites with fold-out beds
Direct access to coastal walks and North Devon Wake Park (4 km)
Extensive wine list featuring West Country producers and classification system for reds (A-E)
Cons
No spa or pool facilities on the property
Some rooms face interior courtyards rather than countryside views
“This historic inn strikes a chord, particularly if you're travelling with a dog or seeking a memorable meal. The garden setting is idyllic, yet it's the interior-think four-poster beds and spa baths-that truly impresses. I found that it balances historical charm with modern comforts rather deftly.”
